Impact's Growth Can Reduce Your Labor Cost

 DB Caption
Impact logistics has been known as the nation's premier freight handling company for many years, but they will soon be known as the nation's premier labor provider for both distribution and manufacturing alike. That's right, the word is getting out that Impact Logistics has positioned themselves to not only provide the needed labor for their customers, but they can do so while providing these customers with a potential savings of up to 25% over historical annual labor cost. What's more, Impact guarantees that their new model will not sacrifice one bit of production, safety, or even quality standards. So the question is, "what has Impact done differently to offer these much needed services regarding how they provide labor in practically every area of your facility?"

The answer is simple, yet it's still a bold move for this already successful company. Impact merely expanded their reach of services by starting a sister company called Impact Engineered Labor Solutions (IELS). To head this company up, Impact recruited a sharp young President named Jon Gardner. Jon has been in and around the manufacturing and distribution business for his entire career, and he comes to Impact from a Vice President position at Thomas & Betts. In fact, Jon being an industrial engineer is what allows Impact to make such a bold move and form this new company. David Hamilton, President and CEO of all the Impact Companies, explains the strengths of IELS by saying, "Impact Logistics has always been a labor provider for companies who needed a workforce to unload their freight. Adding Jon's ability as an industrial engineer opens us up to provide our customers with a dependable workforce in any area of their facility. We no longer stop with the unloading of freight. IELS will now offer labor for tasks like order pulling, kitting, pick/pack, sub-assembly and the list goes on. IELS will also offer all these services while helping our customers experience the savings they need in today's new economy."

So just what does IELS do differently? One major component is the IELS business model. They use industrial engineering, performance management, incentivized labor, and a partnership mindset to offer customers a fixed cost per unit or per work activity. That means they only charge their customers for the work their team accomplishes. This drastically opposes the conventional labor providers who only send temporary workers to your facility on demand. These conventional labor providers then charge you for every hour their employees work whether your work standards are kept or not. This leaves you with constant turnover, training, and management frustration. Jon Gardner says," our model is different because it allows companies to experience the best savings in their labor cost, while aligning with their standards in quality, safety, and production. The difference is we have a vested interest with our customers and we share their values that make them a success!"

Safety Tips You Can Actually Use

If you're like me, you are always interested in a good safety tip.  Well here are two safety ideas for 2010.

  • If you are ordering new lift equipment or even updating your current equipment, opt for orange seat belts.  Black seatbelts that sit against a person's clothing can be difficult to see.  As a result, it is hard to determine if a driver is actually wearing the belt properly.  Orange seat belts are more visible from a distance which makes it easier to identify if the belt is on or off.

  • Post safety tips or articles in the bathrooms.  Okay, Okay... I know what you're thinking.  This is an odd idea.  However, one of our customers has had great results using their bathrooms as a training place for their employees.  Think about it.  Many restaurants post advertisements or news papers in their bathrooms, so why not do the same with safety tips.  Our customer calls it "toilet training". Whatever you call it, posting tips in the bathroom is a great way to keep safety in front of your employees.

I hope these tips help you build a safer environment in your facility.  We all know that reinforcement and awareness go a long way in creating a positive safety culture among your employees.  Feel free to share with me your safety ideas by emailing me at dfillinger@loadingservice.com.  Thank you and remember...

Stay Safe Out There!!!
