Dynamic Deposits

A  person's impact can largely be measured by the people who follow them today and fill in their footprints tomorrow; that said, it is vitally important for today's leaders to invest in the future by making "dynamic deposits" in the lives of tomorrow's leaders.  Neglect of this crucial discipline ensures a break in the continuity of vision, purpose, and effort, and stands as the greatest threat to sustained profitability and success in any enterprise.

batonpassHarry Smith is a fine example of this principle in practice.  For several months, Harry, a very successful and influential leader in our region, met with a small team of Impact employees and friends every other Tuesday to discuss leadership and other important subjects.  Rather than hoarding the information and principles that had helped to further his own career, Harry saw "success" in investing those concepts into the lives of a few of "us" who would apply them in our own endeavors.  By reducing his attention to a few, he is able to multiply his influence.  I wonder... could this describe you?

Do you long to outlive your tenure and make a lasting impact in your organization?  If so, invest in the lives of those around you.  Many leaders are far too insecure to adopt this very basic practice for fear that it will make them expendable; in actuality, as they become known as people-developers and coaches, their place on the team becomes much more valuable rather than less.

Harry... thank you for the investment you've made in our lives... we hope that the efforts we make for the rest of our days will prove your investment to be "a wise one!"
Safe Deliveries Hinge on Freight Receiving

 Truck_Highway
Delivering product to your customer safely and securely is a crucial part of the logistics business. After all, who cares if your outbounds leave on schedule and deliveries arrive on time if the product is  damaged in the process? Taking a proactive approach in preparing freight for safe, secure delivery is key; it begins with how you receive the freight, and ends once the product arrives safely in the customer's facility.

  1. Receive freight carefully. Many operations are now using professional freight handlers (often called lumpers) to receive their inbound freight. Impact Logistics is such a company.
  2. Sort, segregate, and palletize product properly.
  3. Shrink-wrap both freight and pallet. There is a specific process for palletizing and shrink-wrapping freight to ensure both safe transport and safety in the warehouse. Have your freight handlers (Impact Logistics) shrink-wrap your product as part of the unloading process.
  4. Pack cartons carefully. It is crucial to fill the carton and position its contents correctly.
  5. Make sure the contents of the shipment are described on the bill of lading. Carriers can help identify whether or not the packaging is appropriate and the freight is transported safely.
  6. Use new packaging materials. Shippers must use a carton with an appropriate burst weight. Reusing cartons that are not made for multiple use can weaken them.
  7. Use four-way pallets made of sound lumber. Shippers should inspect pallet slats for knots and use four-way pallets to ease maneuvering. Because freight is likely palletized for carriers, they cannot assess a pallet's condition -- this is the shipper's responsibility.
  8. Utilize clear labeling. If a package cannot be tipped, double-stacked, or laid on its side, it should be accurately labeled as such.
