Computer Corner

Computer CornerI speak for many I.T. professionals and computer end users when I state the obvious mistake Microsoft has made with the development of their Windows VISTA OS.  90% of the world's computers still run Windows, but only 18% have upgraded to VISTA.   So what now?  Apple is clearly gaining strength as an alternative to Microsoft for home computers/laptops, though not at the corporate level.  Apple's server solutions and hardware limitations will not allow them to penetrate the I.T. needs of most business.  That being said, companies cannot stay on Windows XP Pro forever...  Something has to budge.  Introducing "Windows 7".. due out the later part of 2009. It is designed to right the wrongs of VISTA.  It goes without saying that this is Microsoft's last chance to salvage their status as the industry standard for computer operating systems.  If Windows 7 is not a complete success similar to the stability and popularity of XP, the market will lead companies to another OS provider.

DESPITE ECONOMIC SLOWDOWN, IMPACT LOGISTICS PREPARES FOR GROWTH

Impact GO Ribbon Cutting1

While many of the country's businesses are scaling back, Impact Logistics, a 22 year-old freight handing company operating in seven states, has opened a new 50,000 square foot warehouse with offices for their corporate headquarters.

To celebrate the opening of this facility, Owner and CEO David Hamilton hosted a Memphis-style Barbeque for clients and special invited guests on October 30th. Taking part in the evening was Bartlett City Mayor Keith McDonald, who helped cut the ribbon during the Grand Opening Ceremonies as pictured above. Also included in the picture is the Hamilton family, along with Bellevue Pastor Steve Gaines and his wife Donna.

As expected, Mr. Hamilton spoke about his company's belief in the future business opportunities of the Memphis area and in the country at large. "Though times are lean for some, there are still many opportunities to be had for businesses with the strength and experience of Impact Logistics," said Hamilton. It is this kind of grit, determination, and optimism that gives Mr. Hamilton and his company the ability to prepare for growth in the current economic slowdown. Clay Banks, Director of Economic Development for the Bartlett Chamber of Commerce, stated, "We are glad to have Impact Logistics as a part of the Bartlett community. It's good to see companies like Impact pressing forward and investing in the future."
